KILLEEN, TX (KETK) – The Central Texas State Veteran’s Cemetery is making a plea to the public to attend an unaccompanied veteran’s funeral.

Air Force Veteran Joseph Walker, who served from September 1964 to September 1968, is set to be laid to rest at 10 a.m. on Monday morning, but no one is expected to be at the funeral. The cemetery says Walker’s family cannot be located.

They are therefore asking anyone form the public to attend the service.

“We do NOT leave veterans behind,” the cemetery said on Facebook.

Texas Senator Ted Cruz picked up on the story and made a public plea on his Twitter account, urging citizens to attend.

A motorcycle group called Wind Therapy Freedom Riders posted on their Facebook page they will be attending the funeral.

“No veteran should be buried alone”, member Luis Rodriguez posted on the page.
