Cheap Trick’s Rick Nielsen in Springfield to advocate for Rockford casino

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WTVO) — Cheap Trick’s Rick Nielsen traveled to Springfield on Wednesday to lobby lawmakers for a casino license for Rockford.

Nielsen, a Rockford native, was introduced on the House floor by State Rep. Maurice West (D-67th Dist), Sen. Steve Stadelman (D-Rockford), and Sen. Dave Syverson (R-Rockford).

Earlier this month, Rockford Mayor Tom McNamara, along with Rockford’s Legal Director Nicholas Meyer, testified during a House hearing on May 2nd about casino expansion in Illinois.

McNamara and Meyer met with legislative leaders and the governor’s staff, saying the effort to bring a casino to Rockford has been on-going for decades.
