ROCKFORD, Ill. - Choice Furniture has moved into the space vacated by Bergner's in the CherryVale Mall, holding a Grand Opening on Friday morning.
The store moved into the first floor of the former Bergner's less than three months after the retail giant closed.
Bergner's said it had to close because of competition from online retailers like Amazon.
Choice Furniture's General Manager Fadi Sahouri says that won't be a concern for him, and he looks forward to a long term relationship with the mall.
"Furniture is an item that people need to sit, feel, touch, and try before they buy. It's not an item that they can buy online," he said. "I'm not saying that they won't. A lot of people will still buy online, but a majority of customers will actually want to see that couch."
Choice Furniture's new home at the mall is three times bigger than it's former Perryville Road location.
