Christmas for Veterans is a campaign that has been going on for 17 years, handing out gifts and cards and 2,800 cookies to almost 1,400 veterans.
The campaign is a branch of the Vietnam to Now organization. Last year, leaders of the group went to 52 veterans facilities to meet with former service members.
Robert Theroux, the Chairperson for Christmas for Veterans, explained why the mission means so much to him.
“It’s important to me [to meet with these veterans] because I see these veterans — old, some of them senile, some of them weak — and I see how they served our country, and I don’t think they should be alone, especially on the holidays,” he said.
Theroux wishes everyone would tell a veteran they are not forgotten, and remember to wish them all a Merry Christmas.
Christmas for Veterans also provides cards that are made by local school children.
