ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) — Bells will be ringing at the end of the month for the Salvation Army’s “Christmas in July” fundraiser.

The money will go to the Women’s Restorative Justice Program or “Shirley’s Place.” This year, any donation up to $25,000 will be matched thanks to an anonymous donor.

The program provides transitional housing for recently incarcerated and addicted women and their children.

They’re able to get financial and rehabilitation support while seeking education or employment for two years.

The Women’s Restoration Justice Program has experienced significant financial challenges in the past year due to a $100,000 cut in funding. This Match Challenge will help recoup $50,000 of that.

Volunteers will be ringing bells at CherryVale Mall on Friday July 26 and Saturday July 27 from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. each day.

The Salvation Army is still looking for volunteer bellringers. You can sign up online here or call 815-708-6433.

Donations can be made to Shirley’s Place Match Challenge at www.salarmywinnebago.org or send a check to: The Salvation Army, PO Box 4159, Rockford IL 61110.
