City of Rockford Informs Judge Old Essex Plant Cleanup is Incomplete

News

The city of Rockford took legal action against the owner of the old Essex plant on N. Main Street.

City lawyers filed a petition in court to inform a judge that A.W. Bennett failed to cleanup the old Essex site by Wednesday night’s court-ordered deadline.  The petition names the company, as well as principal officer Paul Bennett.

It’s now up to a judge what the punishment will be, if any.

Earlier this week, an assistant attorney with the city told us Bennett had been making major strides in the cleanup.  But, that stopped this week.  If the judge denies the petition, the city says it will seek alternative means to get the cleanup finished.
