Area crews are already hard at work trying to keep Rockford roads clear of ice. Rockford Public Works has been out salting the city roads all day in preparation, to make roads less slick for the evening commute and for the salt truck drivers themselves.
Mark Stockman, Director of Public Works, said, “We want to make sure we have product on the road, because when you have a true ice storm and it contact-freezes, there’s no way to get out in front of it after that, and our trucks are not going to do any better on ice than any other vehicle on the road, at that point.”
Stockman says ice storms like Tuesday’s are unpredictable and he recommends drivers stay off the roads.
