The Boone County Sheriff’s Department has posted video on social media of a close call between deputies and a car this past weekend, during a traffic stop.
In the video, Boone County Deputy Schutz can be seen pushing other deputies out of the way as a car passes close to them.
The video is meant to remind drivers of “Scott’s Law”, also commonly referred to as the “Move Over Law”. It was named after Lt. Scott Gillen of the Chicago Fire Department who was struck and killed by an intoxicated driver while assisting at a crash on the Dan Ryan Expressway.
The Sheriff’s Dept. also emphasizes that the ‘Move Over Law’ now applies to all vehicles that display flashing emergency lights, including commercial trucks and cars and is no longer limited to authorized emergency vehicles only.
