The community is in mourning for 8-year-old Ava Beck, of Pecatonica, who passed away Wednesday after a battle with bone cancer.

She was diagnosed with osteosarcoma in June.

Many people followed along with her story via a Facebook group called Ava’s Tribe, where an outpouring of well wishes and heartfelt condolences followed the announcement of her death.

On Wednesday, her mother, Nicole, posted news of her passing. In her note, she said, “Our daughter is at peace and pain free. This makes me happy, knowing she’s in heaven smiling down, though I’m sure the emotions will come.”

A GoFundMe campaign had raised $28,000 towards her chemotherapy treatments.

Rockford makeup artist Annetta McBain created a special, limited edition “icy pink” lipstick, called “The Ava & Alexia” Gloss, with the proceeds going to help the family.

She is survived by her parents, Josh and Nicole, her sister, Alexia, 11, and baby brother, Ashton.

Her funeral will be held Tuesday, November 20th.
