A convicted Illinois felon is arrested in Rockford for gun possession after initially being pulled over for driving without his headlights on.

Around 8 p.m. Sunday, Rockford Police attempted to pull over Abe Brown, 30, of Des Plaines, near Jefferson and Underwood Streets. Brown fled from police before eventually crashing into a park pavilion at S. Winnebago and Montague Streets.

He then took off on foot. Following a brief chase, Brown was taken into custody. Police also located a 57-year-old passenger in his car.

Police later learned that Brown was a convicted felon with a revoked driver’s license. They also found a handgun at the scene. He, and his passenger, were both taken to a local hospital for injuries sustained in the crash.

Brown is charged with a list of offenses including unlawful use of a weapon by a felon, resisting, fleeing to elude, hit and run, no insurance and driving without headlights. His passenger was not charged.

He was released from the hospital and transported to the Winnebago County Jail.
