Winnebago County Coroner Bill Hintz announced Thursday that Desiree Weir-Stephens, 30, was killed from a gunshot wound to her head.

Just after 4 p.m. on Wednesday, Weir-Stephens was sitting outside her home when a white male in his 20’s walked up to her and started shooting.

She was taken away by ambulance and later died at the hospital.

The suspect fled the scene on foot and was described as wearing blue jeans and a blue shirt.
