Couple Safe After Home Catches Fire


UPDATE (10/23/15 6:00pm): A fire in an east Rockford home leaves two people without a place to live. But thanks to a quick response from Rockford firefighters  — the couple and their beloved pets are safe tonight.

Firefighters arrived on scene a little after 9 a.m. to find the residents still asleep inside the home. They were able to wake them up, and get them and their five Chihuahuas to safety.

It only took about 15 minutes for firefighters to extinguish the flames — which spread from the second floor to the attic.

Fire officials say they aren’t sure how the blaze started, but the damage to the building is around $30,000.

The landlord — who declined to speak on camera — says he believes it could have been caused by something electrical, since he has been renovating the second floor.

Meanwhile — fire officials say they will continue to actively investigate the cause.


(10/23/15 10:33am) Firefighters are currently on the scene of a house fire in Rockford.

Heavy smoke and fire appearing to badly damage the two-story house in the 2100 block of 8th Street. Initial reports are the occupants of the home were able to escape safely, no injuries have yet been reported.

Crews remain on scene battling the blaze. No word on the cause.
