From losing their homes, belongings, some even losing family members and pets, the people of Fairdale faced many challenges.
The DeKalb Long Term Recovery team was one group that helped them get their lives back on track.
Dozens from the community turned out to show their support as they close this chapter in their lives.
They thanked people who helped out, those who pitched in and dug deep into their pockets out of the goodness of their hearts.
Many were recognized, including the Kirkland Fire Department, Habitat for Humanity, and their case managers who advocated for residents’ needs.
In the meeting, it was said that the survivors may not be in the same homes, or drive down the same roads, but it’s where they are and where they chose to rebuild even after all they’ve been through.
