ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) –The demolition of the 90-year-old former Rockford Chancery building is underway.
The Rockford Catholic Diocese continued to tear-down the building Monday morning after a halt on Saturday afternoon.
More than half of the structure was gone by 11 a.m.
The citizen’s group Save Piety Hill held a vigil in honor of the chancery.
Preservation advocates previously filed a lawsuit to stop the demolition.
City leaders say they have no legal standing in the case.
