Dixon police officer Mark Dallas awarded Medal of Valor

Dixon Police Officer Mark Dallas was awarded the Medal of Valor by the Illinois Sheriff’s Association on Monday.

Sheriff John Simonton presented the award to Officer Dallas at the Illinois Sheriff’s Winter Conference.

Dixon Police Officer Mark Dallas is a 15 year veteran of the Dixon Police Department and has 24 total years of law enforcement experience and had been assigned as the Dixon High School Resource Officer for the past 5 years. 

At approximately 8 a.m. on May 16th, 2018, 19-year-old Matthew Milby fired several shots near the west gym. Officer Dallas pursued the suspect, who fired back toward him. The officer returned fire, injuring the shooter. 

No students or staff were injured.

“I was very proud to have had the opportunity to present this award to Officer Dallas,” Sheriff Simonton said in a statement.
