Illinois State Police have learned that the weapon used in the Dixon High School shooting on Wednesday was purchased by the suspected shooter’s mother.

Police say the 9mm Semi-Automatic Rifle was purchased in 2012. The investigation is currently pursuing leads to determine how the alleged shooter, 19-year-old Matt Milby, gained access to the weapon.

Milby was released from the hospital at approximately 10:20 a.m. Thursday and transported to the Lee County Jail. His arraignment is scheduled for May 18th.

The State Police also say they have recovered and are reviewing surveillance footage from inside the school. No video footage was obtained from outside the school.

The investigation is ongoing.
