Drug enforcement agents arrest man in pot growing operation

The Blackhawk Area Task Force, Dixon Police and the Lee County Sheriff announced the arrest of David C. Smith, 55, of Harmon, for allegedly running a drug lab.

The multi-jurisdictional drug enforcement unit conducted an investigation into Smith which revealed he was in possession of a “significant quantity” of marijuana. On Wednesday, July 11th, officers obtained a search warrant for his residence and discovered 100 pounds of cannabis, a THC extraction lab, and a rifle. 

Smith was arrested under similar circumstances in 2004.

He was jailed on multiple felony charges including Unlawful Use of Cannabis-based Product Manufacturing Equipment, Unlawful Possession of Cannabis Plants, Unlawful Possession of a Firearm by a Felon, and others.

Smith was taken to the Lee County Jail.
