Autopsies on an elderly couple, whose bodies were discovered inside a house fire in Malta on Sunday, revealed they each died from a gunshot wound to the head.
Authorities believe 74-year-old William Kreda shot his wife, Marjory, 73, in an upstairs bedroom of their house at 3355 Gurler Road, and then went down to their barn and shed and started the two buildings on fire. It is believed he then returned to the residence and started the house on fire, before taking his own life with a .45 handgun.
Both bodies were discovered in bed.
A passerby traveling on I-88 westbound called in a report of seeing “significant flames” south of the tollway in the Malta area around 1:54 a.m.
Sheriff’s Deputies from the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office arrived to find the house, barn and shed completely engulfed on the property.
