ROCKFORD - Two suspects are in custody, including a 14-year-old, for allegedly beating and robbing an elderly man on E. State Street Wednesday night.
Police responded just after 10 p.m. to the 100 block of E. State where several juveniles had reportedly surrounded an elderly man before one of them punched the victim in the head and took his bag. Officers located the suspects when they arrived, but they fled on bicycles.
One suspect, later identified as Keion Jackson, 18, was found near Wyman and Elm Streets. He reportedly punched an officer as they took him into custody.
A second suspect, a 14-year-old male, was found near Kilburn and West State Streets and was taken into custody without incident. It's believed he's the suspect that punched the victim in the head.
Jackson faces charges of robbery, aggravated battery to police, resisting arrest and criminal damage to property. The 14-year-old is charged with robbery, mob action, aggravated battery to a senior citizen, resisting arrest and aggravated battery.
