An elderly Rockford woman died Tuesday after her aide arrived to her to home to find it on fire.
Rockford Fire had to force their way into the home in the 3700 block of Preston Street in order to rescue the woman. Her aide was coming to check on her when she saw the fire and called 911 around 11 a.m.
It took firefighters only a couple of minutes to put out the flames since it was limited to a pan on the stove.
The victim was transported to a local hospital in life-threatening condition, but passed away soon after.
Her death is still under investigation and officials are trying to determine whether her passing was at all a result of the fire.
