A special event was held on Wednesday, aimed at shattering the silence on teen suicide.
Gateway Performing Arts took the stage at Rockford University’s Maddox Theatre to increase awareness on the problem plaguing teens. Suicide is the second leading cause of death among young adults.
Rockford Counselor Kevin Poky organized the event. He says people rarely talk about teen suicide. “We have to talk about it. We have to reach out. It’s the last thing in the world we want to do because of the stereotypes and because of the fear. But, if we do, tomorrow will come.”
Loved ones who lost family members spoke at the event.
