Family and Friends Hold Vigil for Murdered Rockford Taxi Driver

Loved ones held a vigil on Monday night to remember the Rockford taxi driver who was murdered just over one week ago.

33-year-old Charles Johnson was shot and killed at Avon and Blaisdell at around 3 am while sitting in his Speedee taxi van on Saturday, October 31st.

His family says he was working hard to turn his life around, and hope anyone with any information on his killer comes forward.

Johnson’s sister Chantinia Clay said at the vigil, “We’re all out here, working hard. We’re all out here trying to make a better life for ourselves and our families, and to be taken so soon… it’s a tragedy.”

Johnson’s cousin Pierre McBride added,  “We just want to find closure in this. We would like anybody out there with any kind of information, whether you think it means something or [not], we would ask that you get in contact with the right authorities.”

Investigators believe Johnson was lured to the area to be robbed, but for some reason was shot and killed.  No arrests have been made.
