A family of four is left displaced after a fire breaks out at their home.
Rockford firefighters got multiple calls for a house on fire near the intersection of 8th Avenue and 11th Street, callers saying they could hear a dog barking inside the home.
It happened around 5:30 p.m. Sunday evening, responding officers arriving to find flames shooting out of the windows.
No one was home at the time except for the family pets.
Firefighters were able to remove a dog and a cat, but sadly they died from smoke inhalation.
Another pet cat is still missing.
Firefighters are investigating the cause of the fire.
The home is considered a total loss.
