The FBI has joined the search for missing Andrew “AJ” Freund, a 5-year-old boy who went missing in Crystal Lake on Wednesday.
Police say Andrew’s parents say they last saw him when he went to bed about 9 p.m. Wednesday, and they were unable to find him Thursday morning, according to the Chicago Sun-Times.
An FBI team that specializes in missing children and more than a dozen police agencies are helping search for Andrew. Sonar teams have scanned Crystal Lake and not located anything. Crews are searching on foot and using drones for aerial searches.
Police say they have not issued an Ambert Alert in the case because it’s unclear if the boy was kidnapped.
Police dogs searching for Andrew’s scent have only detected it inside the home, “indicating that Andrew had not walked away on foot,” police said Friday.
According to police, Andrew is 3’5″, 70 pounds, with short, blond hair, and last sen wearing a blue Mario sweatshirt and black sweatpants.
Anyone with information is asked to call police at 815-356-3620 or text an anonymous tip to 847411 with “CLPDTIP” at the beginning of the message.
