We’re getting a better idea on the process the City is planning to use in order to hire the next Rockford Chief of Police.

The Board of Fire and Police Commissioners meeting with a representative with “IO Solutions” – a search firm that claims an expertise in public safety selection. The group is based out of the Chicago suburbs.

Unlike when Chief Chet Epperson was hired in 2006, the Board says the plan to find the next police chief is vastly different this time.

“Most likely though every step of the process to guide us and to make sure that we’re making prudent decisions that we are carefully analyzing candidates and their qualifications for the position after we take public input and understand precisely what type of candidate we’re trying to place in the position,” said Board Secretary Ian Linnabary on how the firm will assist in the hiring process.

A formal vote to use the search firm is expected within the week, and several public input meetings are in the works in the next few weeks. It’s all in order to help the firm improve the candidate pool for the position.
