Firefighters from the City of DeKalb were called to a home in the 100 block of Home Drive on Tuesday afternoon to combat a house fire.

Around 1:30 p.m., the DeKalb Fire Department arrived on the scene to find an outside fire that had spread to an unattached garage. The fire had started in a trash receptacle area and had spread. The homeowner was attempting to extinguish the fire with a garden hose when crews arrived.

The firefighters were able to contain the fire within 10 minutes of arrival, but the damage to the home is still estimated to be approximately $5,000.

There were no injuries reported, and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
