First black owned beauty supply store opens in Rockford

News
A first of its kind beauty supply store is now open in Rockford with plans on helping out it’s customers.
Kikifer’s Beauty Supply store held its grand opening celebrations on Saturday.

The store, located at 3424 N. Main Street, is one of seven beauty supply stores in Rockford, but it’s the first one to be black owned and operated.

The store features all name brand hair and beauty products and also has a full service nail salon and beauty shop for their customers.

Their mission is to be a staple for the customers and to use the money it makes from sales to reinvest back into the community.

“Black Rockford spend about $400 million a year or has a spending power of about $400 million a year, but less than 1% of that goes back into the black community, so we decided one of the best places to start as a business is in a business,” Kikifer’s Beauty Supply owner Henry McDavid said.
