First Free Church hosts event to honor veterans and service members

We don’t have to wait until the Fourth of July to get patriotic. First Free Rockford Church will be hosting its 49th Annual Patriotic Celebration on June 29th and 30th, an event honoring veterans and active service members.

Renee Cooper, Classic worship ministries director of First Free, joined us this morning to talk about all the upcoming festivities.

The event is free and open the community. The program will include music and media produced with special lighting effects and will feature the First Free Rockford Chorale and Orchestra, a 70-voice choir accompanied by a 25-piece orchestra, soloists and ensembles. Guests will enjoy music about America including favorites like “Battle Hymn of the Republic” and “Star-Spangled Banner.”

The event will also include a procession of patriots, a salute to all armed forces and a remembrance with a POW/MIA reading and playing of Taps. Veterans are invited to participate in a dessert reception following each performance.
