21-year-old Brandon Cox, a former Blackhawk Fire Department firefighter, faces four charges of arson for a series of fires set earlier this year.

Blackhawk Fire Chief Jonathan Trail says Cox was with the department for about four months.

The Blackhawk Fire Department called in the Illinois State Fire Marshal to investigate when arson was suspected.

He was terminated immediately once they learned of the charges against Cox on March 22nd.

Three of the alleged incidents occurred within the Blackhawk Fire Protection District.

According to the criminal complaint, on the 3rd of January, investigators believe that Cox set fire to a dumpster in Winnebago County.

On January 17th, the complaint alleges that Cox set fire to a utility trailer.

Cox allegedly set fire to a another trailer on January 27th or 28th, 2019 in Winnebago County.

And on February 3rd or 4th, investigators believe Cox set fire to the same trailer again.

Cox faces up to 7 years in prison if convicted. He is currently lodged in the Winnebago County Jail on a $25,000 bond.
