The city of Rockford takes a step closer to tearing down a west side eyesore.
It announced A.W. Bennett Enterprises, the owner of the former Essex Building on North Main Street, has complied with a judge’s order and paid $109,000 to the city. It’s the first of two installments. Bennett must pay the remaining $107,000 by January 17th. The payments would cover the expected cost to demolish the building.
Thursday’s scheduled court hearing has been canceled.
The two sides are scheduled back in court on January 17th. Paul Bennett must appear in court if his company doesn’t pay off the remaining balance.
