The Rockford Fire Department was called to fight a fire in a vacant, former nursing home on N. Main Street.
Firefighters were called to the scene at 1920 N. Main Street at 8 p.m. Saturday because of smoke coming from the building.
They were able to put out the fire on the main floor, but the fire had extended to the second floor.
After their initial efforts were unsuccessful, the ladder company brought in an excavator to demolish certain parts of the building to help them fight the fire.
No one was hurt, but the building suffered $120,000 in damages.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
