Any and all former students of Rockton Grade School are wanted to take a “historic” group photo in front of the old school building this Sunday, prior to its demolition next month.

Organizers for the photo are asking participants to show up in front of the school, at 418 E. Chapel Street, at noon on January 6th, 2019.

The Hononegah Community High School District’s Board of Education purchased the building in 2017. The former grade school dates back to the 1930’s.

School officials say the property was considered for use as storage for maintenance equipment, vehicles, and parking, but after an inspection of the property, the decision was made to demolish the building.

In September of 2018, the property underwent asbestos abatement.

The board intends to salvage the building’s historic stone facade, similar to how the original Hon-No-Ne-Gah sign in front of the main entrance was saved and reused.
