City of Beloit police made four arrests on Monday night in connection with an armed robbery to a private residence.

Officers on patrol received a call about a burglary in progress in the 1100 block of Dewey Avenue at approximately 10:30 p.m.. They were close enough to respond and catch suspects fleeing the scene, due to a new initiative which puts patrol officers in residential neighborhoods.

Upon arrival, the officers heard a single gunshot and saw four individuals running from the residence. Keonte Howard (24), Amari Edwards (17), a 16-year old and a 13-year-old were arrested. All four are from Chicago. Police say one may have had ties to the Beloit area.

The quartet allegedly tried to get through the front door of the residence, which the adult male occupant tried to prevent. He was struck in the head several time with a handgun. The suspects then demanded money. No one was injured by the gunshot.

With the arrests, officers were able to recover two handguns and a stolen vehicle.
