A busy night for Rockford firefighters, as they responded to three house fires and a garage fire overnight all in the same area which are being investigated as being intentionally set.

The house fires were in the 800 block of Maple Ave. and 900 block of Acorn Street.

Firefighters were first called to the fires at the vacant homes on Maple Ave. fully engulfed in flames.  Because of all the fire activity, a second alarm was activated.  There were also live power lines in the roadway which ComEd was called in to neutralize.

As they were battling those blazes, a forth fire call came in for a fire on the porch of a home at 919 Acorn St., which firefighters were able to extinguish quickly.

Two firefighters received minor injuries while fighting the fires, which were treated on scene.  A total of 33 firefighters were needed to bring all the blazes under control.

Then at around 5am, a fully engulfed garage fire was reported in the 13-hundred block of Sherman Ave. which was quickly brought under control.

The fires are being investigated as arson, and anyone with information is urged to call Rockford Fire Investigators or Crimestoppers.
