Four people charged with smuggling drugs into Boone County Jail

Following a three-month investigation, Boone County authorities on Friday charged four people for conspiring and smuggling drugs into the Boone County Jail.

Two inmates, Shane Eichhorn, 39, incarcerated at the Boone County Jail, and Larry Lewis, 41, incarcerated within the Illinois Department of Corrections, and two residents, Ashlee Riener, 34, of McHenry, and Jennifer Brewer, 42, of Genoa, face one count each of bringing contraband into a penal institution, a class two felony. Each faces up to seven years in prison for the charge.

Eichhorn and Lewis remain and their respective institutions. Riener and Brewer were lodged at the Boone County Jail.

The Belvidere/Boone County Metro Narcotics Unit conducted the investigation and subsequent arrests.
