Rockford area children who are victims of domestic violence get some back-to-school support.
SwedishAmerican Hospital helped stuff 200 backpacks with school supplies. Organizers then delivered the backpacks to Remedies Domestic Violence Shelter. The agency says when families leave dangerous situations, they often don’t have a chance to pack their things. One advocate hopes the donation will make the difficult transition for kids just a little bit easier.
“Not only are there children having to start a new school, but then just to be able to start fresh with those new supplies… [such as] a pencil to get them through the school day is just really great to have for them,” said Senior Children’s Advocate Casey Bachochin.
This is the second year of the annual event.
