Freeport firefighters battled a fire at Sanitary Cleaners early Tuesday morning as flames tore through the structure, causing an estimated $300,000 in damages.
Around 4:09 a.m. an automatic sprinkler alarm alerted fire crews of the blaze, which was ultimately able to be contained to one building. Smoke did travel through the four interconnected buildings which take up a majority of the block at 120 E. Exchange Street.
The fire was deemed under control at 8 a.m.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
