Funeral arrangements have been made for 19-year-old Gregory Wood, the firefighter killed when his Leaf River home erupted in flames on November 10th.

Wood’s father Marcus and brother Travis, also both firefighters for the Leaf River Fire Department, were seriously hurt in the fire but officials say they have since been released from the hospital.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Although only 19, Wood had an interest in firefighting at an early age, and became an emergency medical responder in 2014, in which according to his obituary, made him the youngest in Illinois through Swedish American EMS.  He completed his EMT B Certification through Highland Community College in the spring of 2017.

He was also a graduate of Forreston High School.

Wood’s visitation will be held on Saturday November 25, 2017 from 10:30 A.M. followed by Memorial Services at 1:00 P.M. in the Leaf River River Valley Complex.

The family requests in lieu of flowers that memorials be made to the Leaf River Fire Department.
