Amid the heavy travel over the past week, gas prices in the Rockford region went down.

Average prices were at $2.52 per gallon on Sunday, compared to $2.56 last Sunday. That compares to the national rate, which sits at $2.49 per gallon.

Fuel analyst website GasBuddy predicts prices will continue to fall over the next few days, before heading back up heading into the annual meeting of OPEC, or Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries.

Prices Sunday in Rockford were 44¢ higher than on the same day one year ago, and 5.7¢ higher than this time last month.
