Gas prices in Rockford have increased by more than 20¢ in just the last seven days.

The average tank of gas in Rockford on Sunday cost $2.68 per gallon. That’s above the national rate of $2.53 per gallon.

Gas analysts say the increase is due to several factors, including oil prices hitting a new 2017 high, a major pipeline leak resulting in disruption, autumn refinery maintence and a larger demand for gas this late in the season.

Other regional prices aren’t much better. Gas in Chicago is at $2.96 per gallon, $2.55 in Madison and $2.65 in Milwaukee.
