Get to know the Belvidere Police Department at ‘Citizen’s Police Academy’

News

Belvidere Police kicked off the fall session of their Citizen’s Police Academy on Thursday.

The program is offered to inform residents of the different divisions within the police department, and its inner workings.

Residents of all ages are welcome to attend.

Police Chief Shane Woody says it’s all about transparency.

“There’s a lack of understanding of why we do what we do,” he said. “So, that’s the whole point of the course, is to bring better understanding and help them understand, essentially, why their police department functions that way it does.”

The academy will be held every Thursday at 1 p.m. for the next 10 weeks at the Keen Age Center in Belvidere.

Anyone that is interested in attending please contact Community Policing Coordinator Tim Blankenship at 815-547-6312 or Deputy Chief Matthew Wallace at 815-547-5668.
