Come Monday, the State of Illinois will swear in a new Governor. Before his inauguration, Governor Elect J.B. Pritzker made several stops across the state. One of those stops was right here in Rockford. Pritzker stopped in the Forest City as part of his statewide day of service. During his visit, along with the Red Cross and Rockford Fire Department, he helped install smoke detectors in local residents’s home and learned about fire safety. He says he chose to install fire alarms to show support for volunteerism.
“We wanted to make sure we got people volunteering across the state.. people who can engage on this day before our inauguration as a demonstration of the kinds of things we’ll be encouraging throughout our administration”, Governor-Elect JB Pritzker said.
According to Rockford fire officials close to 100%of home fire deaths occur due to a lack of a working smoke detector.
