Despite finally having a state budget, Illinois schools still don’t know what to expect financially from the state as they continue to wait on a new funding formula bill.

Senate Bill 1 is sitting on the governor’s desk waiting approval, but he has promised to veto it. The bill passed both the Senate and House with bipartisan support.

The proposed funding formula is an evidence-based model. That means each district would get money depending on the needs of students. Governor Rauner has called it a bailout of Chicago Public Schools.

Rauner will be in Rockford to discuss funding reform later on today. He will be joined by Senator Dave Syverson and Rockton Mayor Dale Adams at Galapagos Rockford Charter School on School Street. That event will start at 2:30 p.m.

Many schools throughout the state have raised concerns saying if a funding bill isn’t passed, they won’t be able to open their doors in the fall.
