Governor Vetoed Bill that Would Ban Employers From Asking For Salary History

The Governor vetoed a bill that would ban employers from asking job candidates about their salary history.

The Illinois No Salary History bill was designed to narrow the pay gap between men and women.  Supporters say low salaries will follow women as they move from job to job.  Rauner agrees the gender wage gap must be addressed.  But, he wants businesses to be able to ask for pay history after a candidate’s been offered the job and salary.

Lawmakers say they’ll try to override the Governor during the November veto session.
