MANATEE COUNTY, Fla. (WFLA) – A dog is currently recovering in Manatee County after animal services say a dog had been shot in the face. WARNING GRAPHIC DETAILS!
MCAS Officer Bertolino received a call for an injured stray dog on May 16 and brought it to the Manatee County shelter when veterinarians began to assess the dog they came to the realization the dog had been shot, with a bullet entering its right cheek, penetrating his tongue, and ultimately breaking his jaw.
The bullet was able to be removed from its cheek and he is currently being monitored under MCAS care.
At this time there is still a concern for a possible infection and veterinarians are hoping that his jaw will stay in place. No one has been named as a suspect.
