ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) — In just over a month, the City of Rockford will submit its requests for a casino to the Illinois Gaming Board.

Until a final decision is made, several area groups will be pushing to get their projects considered above the rest.

Thursday, at the Embassy Suites Hotel and Convention Center, (the former Amerock building) at 416 S Main Street, organizers of the Rock River West Casino group showcased their ideas for a proposed Water Power Entertainment District and Casino.

The group has plans for a downtown casino and an aquarium on the west side of the Rock River.

Supporters of the downtown casino location say it would help accelerate economic opportunities and add more jobs in the West side of Rockford.

The add that the combination of the walkable area and nearby businesses will further create a beneficial environment.

Ron Clewer, Illinois Market President of Gorman & Company, said, “[We want to truly create a package of performance and entertainment in our downtown core that gets marketed as a whole. It’s not just about a casino. It’s about advancing the greatest economic impact for our community with an entertainment district adjacent to our downtown.”
