ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) — Students from Guilford High School built a shed for Welsh Elementary School and installed it on Thursday, as part of a new “beautification” project.
The students also helped clean up the area around Welsh, located at 2100 Huffman Boulevard, and did yard work.
Mark Anderson, the construction teacher at Guilford says it’s great to see students use their skills beyond the classroom.
“We’re college and career [curriculum] and most of my kids are looking at the career side, so to get these skills down, to try and get a job after high school, is amazing, and we’ve had a lot of kids be real successful at finding careers after this,” he said.
Guilford students also participate in other construction projects, including building homes for Habitat for Humanity.
