Some Rockford students use skills they learned in class to help make a difference in their community.
Guilford High School students enrolled in the Construction Trades class put up the first wall of a home they plan to build for a family in need. They’ll work on it throughout the school year.
It’s being constructed right next to the Sandy Hollow Golf Course. When it’s finished, Salih Hanoosh and his four children will move in.
“When I saw the wall built, I felt like, ‘Wow, this is the beginning,” said Hanoosh. “I’m so, so excited.”
The home building project is a partnership between Rockford Public Schools and the Rockford Area Habitat for Humanity.
