Halloween Contacts May Be Unsafe

With Halloween just around the corner, optometrists are warning trick-or-treaters to be careful with colored eye contacts.

IL Dept. of Financial and Professional Regulation is telling people that colored contacts can be dangerous and cause blindness.  They want to remind consumers that some of these lenses are being purchased illegally.  Optometrists say make sure to check if they are FDA approved before buying.

“If your eye is red or it’s uncomfortable, you got to stop wearing the contacts right away,” said Dr. Scott Blomberg.  “Some of those warning signs of infection by the time you realize that you have an infection or an ulcer the bacteria is already set in.”

Optometrists say if you want to use colored contacts, you should get them through your eye doctor.
