Women were encouraged to stay on top of their health at a special event in Rockford today.
Senator Steve Stadelman (D-34th) is teaming up with several local groups to provide women’s health resources at the Discovery Center this afternoon.
Among the things provided at the event: Referrals for free breast cancer screenings, blood pressure screenings, Medicaid applications, and cholesterol screenings, among other things.
Founder of A Silver Lining Foundation, Dr. Sandy Goldberg, says working together with Senator Stadelman and other local organizations helps her provide care to more people.
“Through his support, and the support of both MercyHealth System and SwedishAmerican, we have been able now to fund the entire spectrum of breast health testing for uninsured and underinsured women and men in the greater Rockford area,” said Goldberg.
“Obviously the state of Illinois is having budget problems, we’ve not had a permanent budget for 2 years,” explained Stadelman. “And one of the casualties of that is breast cancer screenings. The state’s not been able to fund screenings at the same level as in previous years, so there’s been a real need out there.”
All of the resources at today’s event were free. If you’re interested in a free breast cancer screening, you can call A Silver Lining Foundation at 1-877-924-1126.
